Shingo Prize
The Center for Healthcare Value understands the importance of measured results. The only way to achieve provider-purchaser relationships that are valuable and sustainable is to measure the effectiveness of past, current and future relationships. One such tool is the Shingo Prize.
The Shingo Prize is based on the lean management model taught by Shigeo Shingo, an international expert on manufacturing practices and the Toyota Production System (TPS). His teachings describe three levels of business improvement, referred to as levels of transformation: Principles, Systems, and Tools & Techniques. Shingo believes innovation is not achieved by ‘know how,’ but instead requires ‘know why.’
Inspired by the success of the TPS, Dr. Toussaint formed the ThedaCare Improvement System (TIS). This model of continuous improvement applies manufacturing’s lean principles to healthcare. Through TIS, ThedaCare has transformed its quality performance to a level formerly achieved by only manufacturing companies.
Dr. Toussaint served as a guest speaker during the fourth annual Public Sector Shingo Prize awards ceremony in Washington D.C. in October 2008.
